The Palai Diocesan Medical Education Trust (PDMET), formed in 2005 under the leadership of Mar Joseph Kallarangatt, works under the auspices of the Diocese of Palai. The trust was formed with an aim to provide opportunities in the field of medical and paramedical education. The first project of the Trust was the Mar Sleeva College of Nursing at Cherpunkal and successfully inaugurated in 2006. Now, the next phase of growth is the establishment of a tertiary care hospital project, leading to the establishment of a Medicity comprising all the modern as well as ancient traditional healing methods that includes Ayurveda, Homeopathy, Meditation and Prayer. A teaching institution for medical and paramedical courses at a later stage is also on the anvil.
Mar Sleeva Medicity Palai is a multi-speciality hospital project and is intended to provide advanced medical facilities to all, observing the medical ethics and moral principles upheld by the Catholic Church. The hospital is located near the banks of the river Meenachil at Cherpunkal, a magnificent town of age-old traditions, 7 kms from Pala and 12 kms from Ettumanoor. The place is blessed with beautiful and attractive scenaries and picturesque landscapes. A group of dedicated experts are working expeditiously towards the opening of the initial 280 beds in the launch phase.
