Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation

Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation is a relatively new branch of Medicine and it provides rehabilitation service to modify and restore functional ability and quality of life in patients with physical impairments and disabilities affecting the brain, spinal cord, nerves, bones, joints, ligaments, muscles or tendons. It is a vastly developing field of medicine due to the rise in morbidity because of Life style diseases among various health populations.
Doctors specializing in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation (PMR) are known as Physiatrists. Treatment wise and department wise, PMR is an inter-disciplinary subject headed by the Physiatrist doctor. Physiatrists lead a team of Rehab nurses, Physiotherapist, Occupational-therapist, Speech & Swallow therapist, Clinical Psychologist, Orthotist & Prosthetist, thus enabling comprehensive care plan of the patient.
The treatment approaches adopted in Mar Sleeva Medicity Palai include Nero-developmental, Biomechanical and Rehabilitative and attends to patients from various departments like Orthopaedics, Neurology, Neurosurgery, Pediatrics, Pediatric Surgery, Cardiothoracic surgery and Critical Care units.
