Stereotactic Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery (SBRT & SRS)

What is Stereotactic Radiotherapy and Radiosurgery (SBRT & SRS)?

Stereotactic Radiotherapy (SBRT) and Stereotactic Radiosurgery (SRS) are advanced, non-invasive radiation treatments designed to deliver highly precise, high-dose radiation to tumors in the body and brain. SBRT targets tumors in the body, while SRS focuses on brain lesions. Both techniques aim to maximize tumor control while minimizing damage to surrounding healthy tissue.

      How SBRT and SRS Work?

These treatments use sophisticated imaging and computer-guided technology to map tumors in three dimensions. Multiple radiation beams converge on the tumor from different angles, delivering a concentrated dose in fewer sessions than conventional radiotherapy. Real-time imaging ensures precise targeting, even accounting for patient movement or organ shifts.

      Advantages of SBRT & SRS

      • High Precision: Targets tumors with sub-millimeter accuracy.
      • Fewer Sessions: Often completed in 1–5 sessions, reducing overall treatment time.
      • Minimal Side Effects: Surrounding healthy tissues are protected.
      • Effective for Inoperable Tumors: Offers treatment options for patients not suitable for surgery.

Who Can Benefit from SBRT & SRS?

      • SBRT: Early-stage lung cancer, liver tumors, pancreatic tumors, kidney tumors, spine metastases.
      • SRS: Brain tumors, brain metastases, arteriovenous malformations (AVMs), trigeminal neuralgia.

      Treatment Process

      • Consultation: Radiation oncologists evaluate suitability and discuss personalized plans.
      • Imaging and Planning: High-resolution CT, MRI, or PET scans map the tumor with precision.
      • Simulation: Specialized software creates a treatment plan ensuring maximum tumor coverage and minimal normal tissue exposure.
      • Treatment Delivery: Using image guidance, high-dose radiation is delivered with extreme accuracy.
      • Follow-up: Regular monitoring tracks tumor response and ensures patient safety.
