The Department of Neurosurgery and Spine Surgery at Mar Sleeva Medicity Palai provides neurosurgery and spine surgery in Kottayam, Kerala, for conditions of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves in adults and children. As part of the hospital’s Centre of Excellence in Neuro Sciences, the department manages neurosurgical emergencies such as head and spine injuries and bleeding in the brain, as well as planned surgery for brain tumours, spine disorders and vascular conditions of the brain.

Our neurosurgeons undertake complex and highly specialised procedures, including awake craniotomy, endoscopic skull base surgery, aneurysm clipping, moyamoya bypass and epilepsy surgery, alongside spine surgery for slip disc, sciatica and spinal stenosis. Surgery is planned with neuronavigation and performed with intraoperative neuromonitoring, with recovery supported by dedicated neurocritical care and rehabilitation.

Patients are usually referred to a neurosurgeon for a brain tumour, a slip disc or nerve compression that has not improved with medicines and physiotherapy, a brain aneurysm, hydrocephalus or trigeminal neuralgia.
